Just checking in: are you picking at your skin?

Picking pushes bacteria deeper, makes breakouts last longer and leaves marks that can take months to fade. The fix is part habit and part treatment: make picking harder, give your hands something else to do, and let a professional handle extractions.

Why it makes things worse

A blemish is inflammation under the skin. Squeezing it pushes some of what's inside deeper and tears the skin around it. That's why a spot you picked often comes back bigger, and why it leaves a dark mark behind long after it's gone.

Make it harder to start

Most picking happens in the same places: the bathroom mirror, the car, your desk. Dim the bathroom light or skip the magnifying mirror. Keep your nails short. Put a pimple patch on anything tempting, so there's something between your fingers and your skin.

Give your hands a job

Picking is often a stress habit. Notice when it happens and have a swap ready: a hand cream, a stress ball, a fidget ring. It sounds small and it works because it interrupts the loop.

Let a professional handle extractions

When something truly needs to come out, an esthetician can do it cleanly with the right prep and tools. Zoey's Acne Facial includes careful extractions, high frequency and an LED mask, plus a plan for your routine at home.

If picking feels out of your control, that's worth talking about with a doctor too. You're not the only one, and there's real help for it.
